Inspired by Hollyhock
If there is such a thing as a PhD in Hollyhock Education, I believe that one can borrow those credentials, rather than possess them. Over the past decade I have been mentored by Hollyhock’s gifted presenters, staff, visitors and gardens, happily growing to understand what it is to be becoming Hollyhock educated (“Hollyhock-ed”, as some of my favourite people say).
This children’s book project was inspired by you all, and especially by Joel Solomon, who years ago spontaneously encouraged my foray into writing. While taking in a glorious Desolation Sound sunrise, through the steam rising off early morning coffees on the deck of the lodge, I mused to Joel, “My writing just might stink — I’m not sure I should ever publish it.” In what I have come to know as classic Uncle Joel wisdom, he replied without hesitation, “That’s not for you to decide Paul, it’s for the universe to decide!” I chuckled, absorbed his insightful words, and decided right there and then that my pursuit of writing AND publishing was to continue!
Then came along the Climate for Change workshops and the leadership of the likes of Tzeporah Berman and Kairn Carrington, and all the organizers, facilitators, and activist leaders who have further inspired me over the years. Plus the magical wisdom of Atum O’Kane and his contributions to my personal growth and becoming ok with following paths less-travelled.
All this and more Hollyhock inspirations that are too numerous to list have helped fuel me to see this project through to fruition! I hope that all of you and your children or grandchildren enjoy I Can Hear Your Heart Beep and that it will go on to be just the first of many books in the Steve and Eve Save the Planet series!
Thank-you Hollyhockers for your gift of seeing and sharing possibility!
